Obituary of Dorothy Martin

Dorothy Marie Martin, age 74 of Manhattan, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on February 15, 1943 in Wamego, the daughter of John L. and Dorothy (Miller) King. She lived and worked most of her life in the Wamego, Alma and Manhattan area doing various jobs like waitressing, store manager and sales rep.  She made draperies for 50 years for Kaup Furniture, Hartley’s Floor Covering and Drapery World and owned her own drapery business for 25 years.

On November 22, 1958 she married Donnell D. “Donnie” Martin and was married for over 50 years. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2009.

She is survived by three children, Laurie Schwerdt and Rick Reed of Manhattan, Deborah Watkins and Paul Woodyard of Manhattan and Donnell “Duane” Martin and Lindsey Holcomb of St. Joseph, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Shawn Schwerdt, Jeremy Schwerdt, Daryle Schwerdt, Corey Watkins, Krystal Watkins, Reese Martin and Riley Rose; two great grandsons, Trevor and Trenton Schwerdt; three sisters, Susan Benge, Linda Maurer and Wendy Montgomergy; three brothers, Keith King, LeeRoy Maurer and Klaus Maurer; her special friend and sister, Connie Phipps; her baby dog Cocoa and many nieces and nephews.  She enjoyed all of her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Milford Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Great Lakes Hospice and may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
