Obituary of Mervin "Oley" Norman

Mervin “Oley” LeRoy Norman, age 88 of Manhattan, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Via Christi Village.

He was born on February 26, 1929 in Randolph, the son of Stanley and Myrtle (Gustafson) Norman.

On March 23, 1952 in Randolph, he was married to Peggy Jean Peterson.  She survives of the home.

Oley served four years in the U.S. Navy and in the Korean War.  Following his military service, he was the director of the communications center at Fort Riley.  He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and Eagle’s Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Curtis Norman of Manhattan; one granddaughter, Destany Marie Norman-Shuck and Chris Hollinhead of Manhattan; a great granddaughter, Nijah Norman-Hollinhead and one sister, Lucille Lundberg.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Wanda and Beverly Norman and one sister, Leona Blaske.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday.  Burial with military honors will be in the Crooked Creek Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Mervin Norman Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
