Obituary of John Lolley

John Elmer Lolley, Jr., age 83 of Riley, peacefully passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Leonardville Nursing Home with his family by his side.

He was born on June 10, 1934 on the family farm near Frankfort, the son of John Elmer, Sr. and Anna Cecilia (Fox) Lolley.  He attended schools in Pottawatomie county.

After high school in Wamego, John joined the Air Force where he served for three years.  he met and married Doris Dee Bellon while stationed in Lake Charles, LA.  The had one son, Daniel.  They later divorced.

He married Mary Wagner on April 10, 1973.  She preceded him in death.

He was united in marriage on June 9, 2001 to Rosie Helen (Bauer) Ferris in Riley.  She survives of the home.  He is also survived by one son, Dan Lolley (Julie) of Manhattan, two granddaughters Kendell Ann Lolley and Shelby Elizabeth Lolley both of Manhattan, one sister Patricia (Lolley) Conkwright (Dean) of Manhattan brother in law Bill McKinnon of Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathan Geary Lolley, two sisters, Virginia (Lolley) Weixelman and Regina (Lolley) McKinnon, and one brother, Robert Fox Lolley. 

In 1959 after being honorably discharged, John returned to Kansas. He worked on the missile silos in Abilene and Wamego until their completion in 1961. He then worked at Fort Riley Marshall Army Airfield where he was a helicopter and flight-line mechanic retiring after over 28 years’ government service. 

It seemed he could fix anything and loved to be tinkering on something. He enjoyed getting together with his coffee buddies every Wednesday morning and telling stories.  John loved driving his 1959 red and white Ford Galaxy convertible, going to the stock car races, collecting guns and playing pitch with his family.

He was a member of the Riley United Methodist Church, V.F.W. and American Legion.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Riley United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Eisele officiating.  Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery with Military Honors.  A luncheon will be at the church following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Riley United Methodist Church and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
