Obituary of Leona Shadle

Leona May Shadle, age 86 of Clay Center, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on May 18, 1931 at Green, the daughter of Clifford and Ada (Davis) Shadle.  She graduated from CCCHS in 1949 and then got her Bachelor’s Degree from Friends University in Wichita and her Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University.  She taught school in Augusta, Kansas City, Junction City and Salina, where she retired after teaching for 43 years.

She was devoted to teaching and enjoyed all of her students and worked hard on challenging them and encouraged her students to study and advance.  She always aimed to make school fun and her sister Darj and niece LeAnn helped her make games for math and reading.  She made volumes of the Green area history, which are at the museum and wrote and authored Kansas books and a song.  She always enjoyed family get togethers.

She is survived by her sister, Darlene Adams of Clay Center; her sister-in-law, Darlene Shadle of Clay Center; two nieces, LeAnn Adams of Clay Center and Lynn Stevens of Fresno, California; three nephews, Doug Adams and Patti of Clay Center, Lonnie Adams and Teia of Green and Randy Shadle and Denise of Morganville and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ralph Shadle and her brother-in-law, Henry Adams.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in the Green Fancy Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Meadowlark Hospice and may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
