Obituary of Jeanette Alstatt

Jeanette Alstatt, age 93 of Manhattan, a former resident of Riley, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan. She was born on September 11, 1921 in Oakland, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl E. and Esther Helen (Nyquist) Anderson. She got a teaching certificate from Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska and a Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. She taught at Waterville Grade School and substituted at Riley Grade School. During World War II she worked at an aircraft plant and was a “Rosie the Riveter.” While attending Midland College, she met her husband, Vincent Eben Alstatt. They were married on June 15, 1947 in Oakland, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2012. She was a member of Walsburg Lutheran Church taught adult Sunday school classes for many years. She enjoyed weaving, reading and knitting. She had a kind heart and a good soul. She is survived by one son, Eric Alstatt of Riley; two daughters, Linda Wahl and husband Richard of WaKeeney and Dori Allen of Manhattan; three grandchildren, Jillene Van Hoy and husband Tom of Greenville, South Carolina, Alan Wahl of WaKeeney and Todd Allen and wife Christine of St. George and four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Carl Melvin Alstatt and three brothers, Melvin Anderson, Leonard Anderson and Clifford Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at the Walsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Wiens officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Thursday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Burial will be in the Walsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Riley Library and Walsburg Lutheran Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
