Obituary of Robert F. Hannan
Robert F. Hannan, age 85, of Riley, Kansas, died at his home on Friday, August 24, 2012. He was born June 22, 1927, on his grandfathers farm near Ogden, the son of William and Edna (Thorpe) Hannan.
He married Bonnie McClenahan on May 13, 1951 at Clay Center, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2001.
Robert was a farmer and worked at the commissary at Fort Riley for 33 years retiring in 1983. For 40 years he mowed the Fairview Cemetery, Grandview-Mill Creek Cemetery, Leonardville United Methodist Cemetery, Hohman Cemetery and the Girl Scout Camp at University Park. He was a member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church, Pearce-Keller American Legion Post #17 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Hannan and wife Debra of Riley, Kansas and Michael Hannan of Clay Center, Kansas; one daughter, Alice Christensen and husband Kerry of Clay Center, Kansas; one sister, Joann Sharp and husband Dean of Holton, Kansas; four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas, with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Music was furnished by Peggy Schulze and Cathy Hafner. Pallbearers were Gary Sharp, David Sharp, Kevin Christensen, Jamey Mellies, Nathan Ravenstein, Robert Lee and Kerry Christensen. Burial with Military Honors was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established for Homecare & Hospice of Manhattan, Kansas.
