Obituary of Warren Walter
Warren Lyle “Beaner” Walter, age 92 of Manhattan, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Via Christi Hospital.
He was born on March 2, 1924 on the family farm east of Riley, the son of Warren Burton and Maude Elizabeth (Quantic) Walter. He graduated from Riley High School.
On April 7, 1947, he was married to Bonita J. Gravenstein. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Warren worked many occupations in his lifetime. He was a farmer, custom wheat harvester, worked for the Army Corps of Engineers and helped build Milford and Tuttle Creek dams and the levees around Manhattan and was the General Maintenance Repair Technician at Lafene Health Center for over 20 years before retiring. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying K-State sports and anything his grandchildren were participating in.
He is survived by one daughter, Deeann Ciccone of York, Nebraska; three sons, Gary A. Walter of Manhattan, Rick L. Walter of McFarland and Ron M. Walter of Manhattan; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a special friend, Ila Pultz.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Q. Walter and one sister, Hazel Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Thursday. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday. Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
