Obituary of Nettie Jean Lund

Nettie Jean Lund, 89, longtime resident of rural Leonardville and more recently Chanute, Kansas died April 1, 2016 in Chanute, Kansas. Jean was born in rural Clay County, Kansas, November 17, 1926. She was the daughter of George and Mary Caroline (Kaiser) Norris. She attended Clay Center schools, graduating from Clay Center High School with the class of 1944. Jean received teacher training at Kansas State University, and taught at Deweyville, Broughton, Madura, and Washington schools in Clay County, and at Alert School in Riley County. Jean married Duane Lund on November 18, 1950, in Seneca, Kansas, and lived in the Alert community for more than a half decade. Jean was an active and enthusiastic supporter of the activities of the Alert Covenant Church. She taught Sunday School classes, served with the Ladies Aid organization, and was comforted by memories of her times in the Alert community. Jean served two terms on the Blue Valley USD 384 school board and worked with the National Census Bureau. She was known in the community for her work as a seamstress and shared her talent by sewing for others and teaching the skills to a new generation of stitchers. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, in infancy a son Gerald Dee, and her husband, Duane, in 1992. She was also predeceased by brothers Warren Norris, Homer Norris and Dr. Charley Norris, and sister Hazel Wolf. She is survived by son Darrel and Teri Lund of Chanute, Kansas; one daughter Shirley and Jay Warner of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Dr. Jason Warner (Dr. Asli Sahin) of Danbury, Connecticut, Elisabeth Warner of Houston, Texas, Lake Lund of Manhattan and Fisher Lund of Chanute; three sister-in-laws Helen Lund, Janice Krientz and Linda Norris; one brother-in-law Myron and Alice Lund; a special friend, Gloria Davis and 25 surviving nieces and nephews that have many wonderful memories of a loving grandmother and aunt. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Alert Covenant Church with Pastors Dwight Diller and Kevin Larson officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Friday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Diversicare Angel Tree, 530 W. 14th St., Chanute, KS 66720. Contributions may also be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
