Obituary of Verona Schuermann

Verona Schuermann, age 61 of Manhattan, Kansas passed away on Sunday,March 6 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born on January 17, 1955 in Fort Riley Kansas to Vernon and Ramona Zeller of Keats. During her childhood her family worked for the Seventh Day Adventist church and lived in various locations. She attended and graduated high school at Kingsway College in Oshawa, Ontario. Following graduation, she moved to Manhattan where she worked at the Manhattan Coop. There she met Steve Tiffany of Stapleton, Nebraska and they were married December 21, 1975. Their marriage resulted in three children: sons Shawn & Shane, and daughter Kristin. The family lived many years in Riley. Verona maintained jobs where she could still be a full time mother and homemaker. She drove a school bus for USD 378 and managed the Riley swimming pool for many years. In 1988 Verona and her family moved to Council Grove where for a time she was a teacher’s aid for USD 417. In 1990 she went back to school to pursue a degree in nursing. She attended Newman College in Emporia, Kansas and graduated in 1993 with a degree as a Registered Nurse. Verona worked for both the Council Grove nursing home and the Morris County Hospital. After leaving Council Grove, Verona moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma. There she married Stan Schuermann. She helped Stan with record keeping for his directional boring business and worked for numerous hospitals throughout Oklahoma and Kansas as a traveling nurse. Later they moved to Oxford, Kansas. One of her most cherished jobs was working as a homecare hospice nurse. Verona did much of her medical field work which she was so passionate about after receiving a heart transplant in the summer of 1997. She continued nursing until her health prevented her from doing so. Since March of 2013 Verona resided at Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan, Kansas. She was active in activities with other residents and was able to spend time with her parents and sister Becky of Manhattan. Here she was able to be a part of her many grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Verona was always busy doing something. She gardened and canned for many years and was always involved in her children’s activities especially swimming and 4-H. She especially loved horses and had many fond memories of camping with her family and their horses as a child and she carried these passions into adulthood. Verona is survived by her parents Vernon and Ramona Zeller, Manhattan; Mother-in-law Alma Clemons, Medford, OK; husband Stan Schuermann, Oxford; son Shawn (Nicky) Tiffany, their children Ransom, Taylor Jo, Ainsley, Whitney, & Stockton, Delevan, KS; son Shane (Morgan) Tiffany, their children Colton, Grady, & Josie, Alta Vista, KS; daughter Kristin Terronez, her daughters Poppy & Meadow, Winfield, KS; stepson Nathan Schuermann, his son Blanton, Enid, OK; and stepdaughter Shana Schuermann, her daughters Ava & Ivy, Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her siblings Virginia (Don) White, Mount Orab, OH; Rebecca Siders, Manhattan; Philip (Agnes) Zeller, Herington, KS and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed greatly by her Schipperke Razz. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Sedalia Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Good Shepherd Hospice House and/or Sedalia Community Church in care of Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
