Obituary of Butch Walquist

Warren E. “Butch” Walquist, age 70 of Clay Center, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born on July 27, 1945 in Clay Center, the son of Warren Edward and Opal Lorraine (Gilbert) Walquist. He graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1963. On April 25, 1964 in Clay Center, he was married to Diana Marie Bradley. She survives of the home. He lived and worked in Topeka until 1976 when he moved back to farm. While in Topeka, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge 225 and the Topeka Gun Club. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Clay Center, enjoyed hunting and his John Deere tractors. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Dana Rickley and husband Craig of Clay Center and Catherine Hieger and husband Joe of Mount Hope and five grandchildren, Brett and Thomas Rickley and Jillian, Karen and Megan Hieger. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janet Tumbleson. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Clay County Animal Rescue and Education Center and the Clay Center Zoo. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
