Obituary of Lyle William Hafner

Lyle William Hafner, age 82, of Clay Center, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Leonardville Nursing Home in Leonardville, Kansas. He was born on December 17, 1929, on the family farm east of Clay Center, Kansas, the son of William and Anna (Schafer) Hafner. Lyle was a lifetime farmer in the Countryside Community and was a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church. He was US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was married to Loretta Elsasser on May 31, 1951, at Wakefield, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Loretta of the home; one son, Brad Hafner of Hutto, Texas; one daughter, Lori Ellis of Linwood, Kansas; one brother, Wayne Hafner and wife Wanda of Clay Center, Kansas; one sister, Minnie Nelson and husband Dale of Manhattan, Kansas and two grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Ellis. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Countryside United Methodist Church, with Rev. Diana Stewart officiating. Music was furnished by Garla Pierson. Pallbearers were Rick Chaffee, Jay Mall, Arlo Peterson, Bill Johnson, Ryan Ellis and Ray Jenkins. Burial with Military Honors was in the Bala Cemetery, west of Riley, Kansas. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established for the Countryside United Methodist Church.
