Obituary of Elver L. Richter
Elver L. Richter age 87 of Leonardville, Kansas, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
He was born on September 30, 1925 on the family farm in rural Riley County, Kansas, the son of Herbert and Mary (Holle) Richter.
On April 12, 1948 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church he was married to Margaret Lucille Haller. She survives of the home. Elver was a farmer and stockman. He was a devoted family man, who always had time for the family and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and served in various capacities within the church. He loved horses and had teams of horses and mules. He also enjoyed playing and coaching fast pitch softball and dancing on Saturday nights with Margaret.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jerry Richter and wife Isabel Cortina of Mankato, Kansas, Ronnie Richter and wife Sheryl of Green, Kansas and Mark Richter and wife Jeanne of Leonardville, Kansas; one sister, Betty Sump of Clay Center, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Corey Richter and wife Lynn, Lori Gillihan and husband Darryn, Dustin Richter and wife Colby, Jill Whitney and husband Justin, Jamie Duitsman and husband Cody, Bryce Williams, Brooke Richter and Brianna Richter and eleven great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his brother in law, Grant Sump.
A funeral service was held on September 5, 2013 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church south of Barnes, Kansas with Rev. Rodney Fritz officiating. Music was furnished by Kathie Otney. Pallbearers were Corey Richter, Darryn Gillihan, Scott Sump, Matt Sump, Royce Rothlisberger and Jeff Cook. Burial was in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery south of Barnes, Kansas.
Memorials have been established for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Leonardville Nursing Home. Memorial contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
