Obituary of Wilbur D. Buckley

Rev. Wilbur D. Buckley, age 87 of Clay Center, Kansas, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at his home. He was born on May 19, 1926 in Concordia, Kansas, the son of Robert M. and Mary (Dinsmore) Buckley. On August 19, 1947 in Ames, Kansas, he was married to Hazel Florence Furrer. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2011. Wilbur graduated from Wesleyan College in Miltonvale, Kansas with a Bachelor’s Degree and started in ministry in 1951. He was a minister for 40 years and served as the chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Manhattan for eight years. He was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by one son, Robert Buckley of Clay Center, Kansas, one daughter, Karen Duncan of DeSoto, Kansas; one brother, Earl Buckley of Mankato, Kansas; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Buckley and two sisters, Mabel Kalin and his twin, Wilma Jean Nelson. Funeral services were July 31, 2013 at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church with Pastor Rob Stewart officiating. Music was furnished by Leola Nicewander and Barbara Stewart. Pallbearers were David Buckley, Roger Coberly, Chad Buckley, Jeff Buckley, Ron Buckley and Kristi Benyshek. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery south of Ames, Kansas. A memorial has been established for the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
