Obituary of Donald R. Carlson

Donald R. Carlson, age 63 of Manhattan, Kansas died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on October 31, 1949 in Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of Elvin Leroy and Barbara LaVerna (Linder) Carlson. Don washed windows professionally for businesses around Manhattan and was a member of the Worldwide Church of God. He was a perfectionist in everything he did, whether it was his business or athletics. He loved coffee and even wore a shirt that read “Decaf is for wimps.” He moved to the St. Joseph Nursing Home in 1993 and was the last surviving resident that made the move from the old building into the new one. He cherished his time living at Via Christi Village and was involved with many Bible studies and other activities. The family wishes to recognize and thank the staff for their wonderful work and compassion that they displayed to Don. They were like family to him. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Hanson; a brother, Melvin Carlson and wife Linda; a sister, Peggy Carlson all of Randolph, Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Leroy Carlson in 1961 and his step-father, Dale Hanson in 2001. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Via Christi Village Chapel with Deacon Larry Erpelding officiating. Burial was in the Olsburg Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Via Christi Village.
