Obituary of Donald Wayne Zimmer

Donald Wayne Zimmer, age 85 of Waterville, Kansas, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born at Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, on August 22, 1927, the son of Fred and Ethel (Gemmell) Zimmer. On November 16, 1947, he was married to Connie J. Sutherland. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska where Don worked for Western Electric for 15 years and then moved to Fremont, Nebraska where they owned a refuse business, and then moved to Waterville, Kansas where they owned and operated the Fancy Creek Marina at Randolph for ten years and farmed in the Cottage Hill Community. Donald was a member of the Swede Creek United Methodist Church, a life member of the Randolph VFW, a member of the Linn American Legion and the Randolph Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Connie Zimmer of the home; two sons, Bruce Zimmer and wife Cheryl and David Zimmer and wife Shonna all of Randolph, Kansas; one daughter, Marleen Friedrich of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers Neil Zimmer of Lincoln, Nebraska and Larry Zimmer and wife Judy of Tonto Basin, Arizona; three sisters, Shirley Maynard and husband Lyman of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kay Rosonke and husband Ron of Phoenix, Arizona and Mary Lou Bolton and husband Cary of Butler, Missouri; six grandchildren, Chet, Lindsey, Devin, and Dylan Zimmer of Randolph, Kansas, Ryan Friedrich and wife Rebecca of Republic, Missouri and Kelly Friedrich of Los Angeles, California and two great-grandchildren, Brhett and Maci Friedrich of Republic, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Zimmer, three sisters, Dorothy Bomberger, Irene Kieborz and JoAnn Zimmer, and a son in law, John Friedrich. A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Randolph United Methodist Church in Randolph, Kansas with Rev. Deborah Hanes-Nelson officiating. Music was furnished by Alice Gibson and Richard Nelson. Pallbearers were Mike Bomberger, Chet Zimmer, Devin Zimmer, Dylan Zimmer, Ryan Friedrich and Brhett Friedrich. Burial with full military honors was in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery north of Randolph, Kansas. Memorials have been established for the American Diabetes Association, the Swede Creek United Methodist Church and the Randolph Senior Center.
