Obituary of Leon "Poots" Schultes"
Leon E. “Poots” Schultes age 81, of Randolph, Kansas, passed away Wednesday October 31, 2012, at the Clay Center Medical Center in Clay Center, Kansas.
He was born on May 12, 1931, the eighth of eight children to Edward and Ida (Sand) Schultes. Mr Schultes spent his entire life on the family farm in the Rose Hill community north of Randolph. He was a farmer and stockman.
He was married on April 13, 1980, at Randolph, Kansas to Ida Louise Olson.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Ida Sand Schultes and Edward Schultes, 3 sisters, Virgie Cook, Jo Turney and Dorothy Johnson and 3 brothers, Merlin Schultes, Mike Schultes and Lyman Schultes and a niece Cheryl Schultes Goff.
He is survived by his wife Ida Louise Schultes of the home, one brother, Raymond Schultes of Topeka, Kansas; a step daughter, Janet Robbins and her husband Lee of Yates Center, Kansas; a step son, Donald Olson and wife Theresa of Evans, Georgia, and his four step grandchildren, Melissa Robbins of Pittsburg, Kansas, Melanie Robbins and Riley Robbins of Yates Center, Kansas, and Elizabeth Mann and husband Daniel of Hurst, Texas,and one step great grandson, Ryan Olson. Also surviving are 7 nieces and 4 nephews, Larry Cook of Richardson Texas, Karen Turney of Atlanta Georgia, Dr. Michael Schultes of Topeka, Kansas, David Turney of Kansas City, Missouri, Marlene Hendershot of Hereford, Texas, Gwenda Hay of Topeka, Kansas, Dwight Johnson of Manhattan, Kansas, Gayla Morstorf of Lawton, Oklahoma, Genita Smith of Topeka, Kansas, Deanna Hall of Manhattan, Kansas and Genell Schultes of Topeka, Kansas.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at the Randolph United Methodist Church in Randolph, Kansas, with Rev. Deborah A. Hanes-Nelson officiating. Music was furnished by Betty Wohler and Alice Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers were Louis Hargrave, Russell Peterson and Raymond Schultes. Pallbearers were Bruce Kaump, Wendell Anderson, Jim Steel, Mike Schultes, Lee Robbins and Dean Jenson. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley Kansas, was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established for the Randolph United Methodist Church.
