Obituary of Robert C. Buchanan

Robert C. Buchanan, age 83 of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. He was born on June 20, 1931 in Manhattan, the son of Claude L. and Letta Mae (Caleson) Buchanan. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Air Force after high school and was proud that he serviced President Eisenhower’s plane in Denver. On November 21, 1953 at the chapel of Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, he was married to Alma M. Adamson. She survives of the home. He was the owner of Robert C. Buchanan, Inc. which included a trucking company, livestock, the Riley Elevator and RB Outpost. He attended church his entire life and most recently was a member of the Harbour Church. He served on the Riley County Board of Zoning Appeals, Riley County Rural Water District #1 and a board member for Youth for Christ. He loved to hunt and fish, especially trout fishing in the mountains. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Debra Wahl and husband Ralph of Manhattan, Robert “Buck” Buchanan, Jr. and wife Karla of Leonardville and Pamella Laird and husband Todd of Converse, Texas; one sister-in-law, Karyl Buchanan of Arkansas; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and three step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald D. Buchanan. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Rob Kirkpatrick officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 3 - 4:30 P.M. Sunday. Burial will be in the Sedalia Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Samaritan’s Purse. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
