Obituary of Frederick Muriel Doza

Frederick Muriel Doza, age 84 of Leonardville, KS died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS. He was a resident of the Leonardville Nursing Home and was a long time member of the Leonardville community since 1969. He was a charter member of the Leonardville Lions Club and a member of American Legion Post 40. He was born March, 28, 1930 at St. Louis, MO. the son of Almont Francis and Gertrude Rachel Rogers (Nee) Doza. He married Alberta Marie Dyle (Nee) Doza and they divorced in 1956. He then married Leona Spradling and they divorced in 1968. On March 1, 1969 he married Pauline (Polly) Hays Larson. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2005. Mr. Doza worked at the Pittsburgh Plate & Glass factory at Crystal City, MO prior to entering his military career in February 1948. He retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of CW3 from Ft. Riley, KS in 1969. He had a wide range of jobs ranging from foreman, equipment operator, electrical supervisor, salesman and service station attendant after his retirement from the service. After retirement, he furthered his education in Air Condition/Refrigeration & Computers. His hobbies included collecting coffee cups, reading mysteries and spending KS winters in Zapata, TX. During his military career, he was stationed in France, Germany, Korea & Vietnam. He received several awards and medals: Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Commandment Medal and Bronze Star. He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Sue Peoples and husband William (Bill) of Syracuse, MO and Charlotte Marie Doza (Nee) Lee and husband Robert of Clay Center, KS; stepdaughter Vonnie Bryant of Junction City, KS; stepson Larry Larson and wife Gena of Randolph, KS, 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Betty Haverstick of Willis, TX & Donna Vest of GA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sons Frederick Leroy, Francis Eugene, Russell Andrew; a stepson Loren Larson; two grandsons Joseph Frederick & Corey Lee; a great grandson James David Peoples; three brothers Eddie, Robert, Jim Doza; one sister Charlotte Roth and two son-in-laws, Bob Bryant and Chuck Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, KS with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 7-8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Manhattan, KS. A memorial has been established for the Wounded Warrior Project. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, KS.
