I am so sorry for your loss. I remember stopping in for gas throughout my high school years. Plus, you could always find my dad, Larry Peters, having a cup of coffee in the mornings on his way into Manhattan.
I know both Phil and my dad will be hefting a cup of coffee and telling stories throughout time.
Best of Luck

I have moved away from Kansas many years ago but I have had very fond memories of the area that I grew up in. Phil was always a part of our family and I will never forget him for his friendship and kindness to all that he met. I will keep Phil in my memories forever.

My prayers are with you at this time of loss. I know Phil loved life and his family and will be missed. My dad always enjoyed Phil so much and especially appreciated his time and efforts at the church and always having coffee ready for Wednesday morning men's group.

I am so sad to learn of Phil's passing. I used to work at Phil's Skelly on Saturday nights and it was a wonderful opportunity for me. I have told the story many times about a valuable lesson I learned from Phil that really sums up Phil's service to others. One Saturday night some folks drove into the station and needed some mechanical help. I had no idea how to help them so I phoned Phil late on a Saturday night. Without hesitation he came to the station to help the folks; people he had never met and would likely never meet again. I was very apologetic for phoning and bothering him late Saturday and not being able to help them on my own. He simply said to me that "this is what we do; we help other people that need it". That was and is a great lesson and I still value it today which is just one small part of his far reaching legacy.
He is one of our great role models and he will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Phil as being a gentle, kind and patient man willing to help anyone in need. I'm so glad Mom and I got to see him and Myrna a couple of years ago when we visited Riley. Mom died last week too, so now I guess she and Phil will have a reunion in heaven.

Dear Myrna, Brad, Shawn and family: I was saddened to see Phil passed away. He was such a wonderful man and a great friend to my dad. We used to joke that when we couldn't find dad, he was probably at the gas station having coffee with Phil. I know coffee was only a decoy as he loved spending time there and chatting it up with Phil. It was a great privilege and honor to know him. He was iconic at the gas station and church and a pillar of the community. That's what I remember most about him. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. -- Korrina Kientz

The obituary is a wonderful summary of Phil's life. Phil believed in service to his thousands of customers, to the people of Riley and surrounding area, and to his church. What a great couple he and Myna were. He was one of those rare people who spent a lifetime serving others. Riley and his friends will miss him.
