Obituary of Gevon Holt
Gevon Gwenlyn Holt, age 94 of Olsburg, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at Westmoreland Community Care Home.
She was born on September 12, 1922 on a farm south of Axtell, Nebraska, the daughter of Sieford and Mabel Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. She attended a country grade school and graduated from Axtell High School in 1940.
On October 11, 1942, she married Eggert C. Olsen. They later divorced. To this union, two sons were born, Bruce and C. Dudley. They resided in Holdrege, Nebraska. Gevon was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. She became a member of Mariadahl Lutheran Church in 1952 when she and her two sons moved to Mariadahl Children’s Home near Cleburne.
While working at Mariadahl, she met Carl A. Holt and they married on November 17, 1956. He preceded her in death in 2000. To this union, two children were born, Nancy and Gary. In 1985 they moved to Coffeyville where they helped their son Bruce with his airplane business. They moved to Olsburg after a flood forced them to move and for a time they lived in Manhattan where they were host and hostess to both Carlson and Colorado Plaza apartments.
Gevon was a faithful member of the Olsburg Lutheran Church and Olsburg Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed assisting people in the community until Macular Degeneration claimed her eyesight and spending time and cooking for her family and the farm hands serving her specialty, fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
She is survived by three sons, Bruce Olsen (Sandy) of Tucson, Arizona, C. Dudley Olsen (Sue) of Lyndon and Gary Holt (Vicki) of Westmoreland; one daughter, Nancy Whitesell of Olsburg; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Carl, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Coyle; a great granddaughter, Trinity Coyle; two brothers, Marlyn and Burdette Carlson and two sisters, Adeline Swanson and Lorraine Enquist.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Olsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Wiens officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mariadahl Cemetery in Olsburg.
