Several summers and weekends of my youth were spent at the Schwartz farm tending hogs, cutting cane, riding a blind horse, playing checkers with Grammy and DeDe, hand-fishing, and herding cats. I remember Marlene's 'brown bread' homemade ice cream and her little tiny, but fierce, dog. I never left the farm hungry or full of energy!
