So very sorry to hear of your loss. The Francis home was always open to all of the neighborhood kids and we could count on Norm to be out and part of the late night basketball games in the driveway! I have so many great childhood memories growing up in Randolph and the Francis family was a huge part of that. Love to you all. Barbara

I just learned of Norm's passing. I enjoyed many conversations with Norm during my time teaching/coaching at Blue Valley. His calm and friendly demeanor stands out as one of my favorite memories of him. The first time I met him was mid August '82. I just moved to Randolph with my family to begin my career. I took my 3 year old son Joe on his first fishing trip ever down at the Fancy Creek boat ramp pond area. Joe had just pulled in his first fish of his life, with a cane pole wth canned kernel corn for bait. Joe had just finished dragging it up on the bank when Norm pulled up. We were holding up the little catfish just admirin' away at it and Norm walked down and introduced himself. Right away it felt as if I knew him for many years as he treated me like a longtime friend with his friendly manner. He made my son feel really good and proud about the "massive" catch he just hauled in. We talked awhile as he knew a new guy from Salina was starting at Randolph schools but he didn't know who til that moment. When we finished our talk, he said his farewell and as he walked back to his state park truck, and with a big kind smile he said, "Coach, and don't worry about not having a state park use permit, we'll get to that some other time." Two things really stood out about that: one, it was the first time in my life someone called me "Coach," and two, catching a break for no state permit from a very good and kind man. I grew to respect and admire Norm greatly.
(My son Joe is 37 now and cherishes his "first"
Fish story). Lord Bless you all. Norm is in my prayers. Rick Greene, Randolph-Blue Valley Jr High, 1982-1986.

I am so very sorry for your loss and that I can't be at the visitation or funeral to pay my respects. Norm was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was loved and admired by all. He was a shining example to everyone of what a good and Godly man should be. He always made me feel so welcome and part of the family. He will be greatly missed, but I know he will be smiling and watching his loved ones with love and pride from heaven.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of a friend and fellow official. It was my pleasure to have known Norm Francis, officiated football and basketball games with him, and umpire some fast-pitch softball games he played. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My condolences to the family

Not many girls are lucky enough to grow up right down the road from one of their life time best friends. However, I was that lucky and more because she had grandparents that treated us ALL as their own. He will forever be missed.

What a great guy. Norm will be missed by many, and especially those of us lucky enough to work with Norm as an official. I have great memories of Norm, not only as an official, but on the golf course as well. He worked hard to ensure the youth he work with prospered not only as athletes, but in all aspects of life as well. Val and I send our love and prayers during this time of sorrow.

May this candle be lit as a reflection of Norman's laughter and smile. May his memories bring light to those he held so dear in his heart. May this light resemble how many lives Norman touched in his love for his family and all of those around him. The light of this candle will be bright in our hearts forever in memory of Norman Francis. Sherry Figge
