Obituary of W. Duane Higgins
W. Duane Higgins, age 91 of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community.
He was born on July 8, 1926 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Ruben Oren and Margery Dorothea (Carlson) Higgins.
He was married to Shirley Jolene Specht on August 26, 1951 at the Riley United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.
Duane was a heavy equipment operator and worked for Bayer Construction and was a foreman at the Riley County Landfill until his retirement. He was a member of the Sedalia Community Church and American Legion Post 17. He enjoyed fishing and traveling in their RV across the country, where they wintered for 12 years in Yuma, Arizona.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Daniel Higgins and Julie of Leonardville and Owen Higgins and Holly of Manhattan; one brother, Eugene Higgins of Deepwater, Missouri; six grandchildren, David Higgins (Andrea), Erin Riley (Jesse), Nathan Higgins, Jessica Koch (Josh), Jesse Higgins and Laura Higgins and eight great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Inurnment will be in the Sedalia Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Sedalia Community Church and the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.apfunerals.com.
