I was thinking of Miss Shadle today and found this obituary. I was raised in Kansas and was most fortunate to have Miss Shadle as my second-grade teacher. After 20 years of schooling, including four years of college and three years of graduate school, Miss Shadle is my all-time favorite. It’s been 50 years since I was in her classroom . Miss Shadle was so encouraging and extraordinarily pleasant. She made me feel so special, like I was her only student. Her positive impact on my life is immeasurable. I choose to remember her playing her accordion and bouncing around the room with a big smile. It’s been said that she loved her students. I know that she did, because I experienced it. I remain forever grateful for Miss Shadle in my life. My God bless her always...

Leona and I taught school together for many years at Hawthorne Elementary in Salina. She was the special reading teacher and I taught first grade. She had many of my students who needed help in learning to read. Leona was a remarkable reading teacher. She wouldn’t stop teaching those children until they could read. She kept at them all the time. Many of the students credited Leona with being their best teacher. We would get together after school and talk and talk and talk! We agreed on about everything in life from methods of teaching to politics. We kept in touch after she retired and I always looked forward to her letters. Leona was a great person and strong educator. I will miss her. I feel lucky to have worked with her and known her.

I enjoyed knowing Leona during the time I was librarian at Hawthorne and we kept in touch for a few years after my time there. A sweet, friendly teacher with a sense of humor who wanted the best for her students and was also a woman of prayer. What a blessing for her family to have the assurance that she now spends her time with Jesus in heaven! May God give you comfort in your loss of her here on earth.

Shadle Family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Leona was such a sweet lady. She always had a smile whenever I would see her. I will cherish all my memories of her, especially our laps around the track, courthouse square, or inside the school for the survivor lap at the Relay For Life. May God wrap his loving arms around you and give you strength in the days ahead. Deepest sympathy. Big hugs to all of you.

We enjoyed our many visits with Cousin Leona, riding around the countryside of Clay County and hearing stories about her life in Green and Clay Center. She always had an upbeat attitude and a wry sense of humor. I was impressed with all of Leona's many accomplishments and her energy for taking on new projects. She seemed to keep busy with new adventures and endeavors throughout her life. Leona will be greatly missed!

Ms. Shadle was my 2nd grade teacher in Augusta KS many years ago. I remember her sweet nature and have often thought of her as one of my favorite teachers. She was very young then with beautiful red hair and always smiling.
