Obituary of Edna Rood

Edna Marie Rood, age 98 of Leonardville, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on January 9, 1920 in Lincoln, Kansas, the daughter of George and Hannah (Bolte) Meier.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln County.

On December 6, 1939 in Alma, Nebraska, she was married to Frank N. Rood.  He preceded her in death on May 7, 1991. Edna was a homemaker, raising six boys and also worked at the Leonardville Nursing Home as an aide, and later in the laundry department.  She loved gardening and was an avid quilter, making quilts for all of her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Vernon Rood in 1997, Dale Rood in 2009 and Jerry Rood in 2013; three daughters-in-law and her eight siblings, Martin Meier, Oscar Meier, Walter Meier, Lorenz Meier, Erwin Meier, Adolph Meier, Herman Meier and Ella Wacker.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Rood of Overland Park, who passed away on April 21, 2018, Norman Rood (Cathy) of Oak Ridge, Missouri and Ronald Rood of Stilwell; two daughters-in-law, Janice Rood and Shirley Rood, both of Leonardville and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Edna’s wish is “For everyone to live in peace.  God be with you until we meet again.”

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.  Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to Meadowlark Hospice or Danny Thomas’ Children’s Fund for Cancer and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
