Miss Elsie was an amazing woman. She cared for her family and friends, very deeply. I got to hunt on the farm, before Ernie passed and continued, until after Miss Elsie moved to Ottawa.
I loved to stop in and visit, while warming up, at the kitchen table. I had no idea, that Miss Elsie had never been close, to a deer, until she told me. That year, I got a deer during muzzle loader season. I called my husband, Dan Strauss. He and David Smith helped me load the deer and take it to Miss Elsie's house. It was starting to get dark, but we helped Miss Elsie outside and out to the truck, so she could see it, up close. She ask if she could touch it. So, we slid the deer to the back. She petted the fur and felt of the hooves. Miss Elsie was amazed at how soft the fur was and commented about the hooves, being like a calve's.
Miss Elsie lived a very long and full life. But she will be missed.
