Obituary of Loretta Hafner

Loretta Jean Hafner, age 87 of Leonardville, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on April 13, 1931 in Industry, Kansas, the daughter of Herman H. and Sophia (Bletscher) Elsasser and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1949.  She worked at the Clay Center Telegram for two years before marriage.

On May 31, 1951, she was married to Lyle William Hafner.  He preceded her in death in November 2012. Loretta was a homemaker and farmwife for 60 years.  She loved cooking, gardening and canning.  She was active in the Countryside United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Bible School and planning and serving church dinners.  She was a 4-H leader for many years and worked at the Tasty Pastry Bakery for several years after her children went off to college.

She is survived by one daughter, Lori Oliver and husband Robert of Linwood; one son, Brad Hafner of Round Rock, Texas; two grandchildren, Lauren Groshong and husband Daniel of Stilwell and Ryan Ellis of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Leora Leonard of McPherson and one brother, Harold Elsasser of Clyde. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Myra Marie Elsasser and two brothers, Chris Elsasser and Dwayne “Butch” Elsasser.

There will be a visitation for the family to receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Countryside United Methodist Church with Pastor Sarah Gill officiating.  Burial will be in the Bala Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Countryside United Methodist Church and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
