I knew Don through his loving and devoted life partner/wife, Charlotte, for many, many years. Don's love of his family, love of the land, and love of teaching granddaughter, Nissa, how to be the best cattle person lingers in my heart. Don was gentle, loved a good laugh, loved to learn new things, and he loved people. Don leaves a legacy of love, peace, and grace. Our lives are better for having known him.
Blessings to the Olsen family. Please surround them with your friendship and love.

Condolences to Charlotte and the family. Don was a special guy that I was fortunate to spend some time with when I was a kid and he was just getting started in the Charolais cattle business. It seems that we hauled more than a few bales of hay in his white Dodge Ram pickup. I will always remember Don for his humor and kind spirit but will treasure the memory of laughter and feeling of lightness when shooting baskets with him and my brother, Randy, in the twilight after a long day.

The first time I met Don was in 1975 when he and Charlotte came to visit me in Alaska on their honeymoon. I took them down to a place called Homer, Alaska where we secured a very l as the king crab to cook over an open fire. It took forever to try to boil water over an open fire and my recollection it was very dark by the time the crab finally was ready. We camped out and I was the third member on that honeymoon. We went back to Anchorage and had yet another late night in Wasilla, Alaska having a few libations. On that night a forth member joined our honeymoon..somehow I acquired a rabbit. I am still not sure how it why the rabbit became mine. I have had the pleasure of visiting my old Peace Corps friend Charlotte and her wonderful husband. I got to spend exciting times visiting the Charlese in the pastures and had such interesting and worldly discussions with them. I truly adore getting to know Livia and Reggie and Nissa. I will miss Don and his wonderful humor. He had a fine gentle heart, great kindness and the ethic that we would wish for all to have in our society.. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wonderful family.

We share in the joy of a life well lived, but our hearts hurt with you at the loss of such an incredible man. As I'm thinking back, joyful is an amazing term of precise description of Don. When we stayed at your place with my mom Jeanne, up until her passing a few years ago she always talked about that amazing little ranch up in Manhattan Kansas and so enjoying getting to know Alan's side of the family better. Thank you for all the memories.

It was was with a very sad heart that I learned of Don’s passing. He was a good man, husband, father, brother, and friend. I always felt his gentleness, kindness, and humor. This world lost the best of souls, the next will be welcoming him with open arms. His character and spirit will be left in those he loved dearly. My heart is with those he loved.
