Obituary of Donald Renner

Donald Lee Renner, age 85 of Manhattan, passed through Heaven’s gates on November 3, 2019 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

He was born on November 17, 1933 in Riley, the son of Orley and Gladys (Heller) Renner.  He graduated from Leonardville High School in 1951.

He was a member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Leonardville Lions Club and spent time as a volunteer firefighter in the Leonardville community.  He cared for his parents in their latter years until their passing.

Donald loved his family farm and was a farmer most of his life.  He continued to commute to his farm after moving to Manhattan to live with his wife, Nola Jean Renner, whom he married on May 4, 1996.

He loved sports, being an avid follower of the Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.  He was also a part of the Wildcat Lanes bowling league for many years.

Donald is survived by his wife, Nola Jean Renner of Manhattan; stepsons, Steven Hosler (Mary) and Paul Hosler; stepdaughters, Tamara Smith (Joseph) and Bridget O’Brate (Gary O’Brate); step grandchildren, Colleen McConnell (Kevin), Jessica Flunder (Phalton), Dalton Smith and Duncan O’Brate; step great grandchildren, Miles McConnell, Marshall McConnell and Phalton Joseph Flunder; sister-in-law, Dolores Renner and nieces and nephews, Rick Renner, Jeanie Baughman, Bob Renner (Desiree) and Elaine Fetters (JP).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gene Renner. Donald also loved his farm dog and longtime companion Toto, who passed away several years ago.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. November 14, 2019 at the Fairview Presbyterian Church with Rev. D. Erich Schwartz officiating.  The family will receive friends on November 13, 2019 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
