Obituary of Cheryl "Toot" Carpenter

Cheryl “Toot” Jane Carpenter, age 67 of Clay Center, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. She was born on April 16, 1952 in Clay Center, the daughter of Worell Emmanuel and Leona Josephine (Nowak) Wendland. On December 28, 2001 in Manhattan, she was married to Kelly Eugene Carpenter. He survives of the home. Toot was a beautician and cosmetologist in her early working years. She later owned and operated Leonardville Food Mart. She was a member of the Leonardville United Methodist Church, Clay Center Eagle’s Lodge and Clay Center American Legion. She was an avid K-State fan and loved watching football. She enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews play sports as they were growing up. Playing bingo and her dogs and cats were also big joys for her. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Shawn Carpenter and fiance Amanda Raymond of Clay Center; her daughter, Kayla Allen and husband Jeremiah of Belleville; two brothers, Larry Wendland and wife Dory of Leonardville and Mike Wendland and wife Carol of Leonardville and her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Leonardville United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Leonardville United Methodist Church and the Clay County Animal Rescue and Education Center. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
