Obituary of Johnie Toombs

Johnie Levon Toombs, age 91 of Clay Center, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Medicalodge of Clay Center. He was born on October 14, 1928 in Fob, Oklahoma, the son of Johnny Thomas and Lola (Cox) Toombs. As a boy, he traveled with his family working as a produce harvester, eventually migrating to the west coast. In 1944, he was married to Margaret Biasi and they made their home in Blythe, California where he started working for the Riverside County Landfill. They later divorced. He then married Mildred Nadine Arnold and in 1992, when he retired from Riverside County, they moved to Salem, Oregon. There he was ordained as a minister at New Horizons Pentecostal Church of God. He retired from ministry in 2008 and moved to Enos, Oklahoma in 2010. He moved to Kansas in 2019 to be closer to his family. Johnie was a devout member of the Pentecostal Church for over 60 years. He loved his faith and was a preacher for many years prior to his ordained ministry. He enjoyed working with his personal livestock and “junking”. He is survived by his children, John Thomas Toombs (Lenora) of Barnes, Kansas, Anita Smith (Ronald) of Barnes, Kansas and Barbara Moore (Robert) of Green, Kansas; his step children, Dennis Arnold (Lucy) of Kentucky, Randy Arnold of Enos, Oklahoma, Toni Foust of Page, Arizona, Donna Barr of Salem, Oregon, Shelly Arnold of Salem, Oregon, Debra Westman (Sandy) of Mansville, Oklahoma and Richard Arnold of Kingston, Oklahoma; one sister, Sharon Cordova of Blythe, California; 25 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildren Toombs; his parents; two step mothers, Buelah and Oley; his siblings, Lewis Toombs, Helen Chapman and Lillie Peters; an infant son, Johnnie Ronald and one granddaughter. Cremation is planned with services to be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Abundant Grace Church in Kinston, Oklahoma or Meadowlark Hospice.
