Obituary of Ken Mantz

Ken Mantz, age 71, of Milford, Kansas died Sunday, September 23, 2012, at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on April 5, 1941 at Pratt, Kansas, the son of Dell and Ida (Lambky) Mantz. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He had worked as a buyer for Beechcraft in Wichita.before becoming an insurance agent. He had been an agent with the Lutheran Brotherhood for 28 years before retiring in 1998. He always followed his favorite saying, “do one kind deed for someone else every day”. Ken was an avid walleye fisherman, loved water skiing, anything to do with the great outdoors and traveling with the Vixen Camping Groups. He enjoyed every hour of every day and always with a smile. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended the St. Paul Lutheran Church near Junction City and was a member of the American Legion Post #45 in Junction City. Ken was married on May 13, 1967 to Karen Gordon at Medicine Lodge, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Karen Mantz of the home at Milford, Kansas; one son, Lance Gardner and his wife Brenda of Salem, Oregon; one sister, Betty Hackaday and husband Richard of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother in law, Robin Gordon and his wife Jane of Wichita, Kansas; one sister in law, Cheryl Standage of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; one nephew, Gordon Standage and wife Jamie of Hutchinson, Kansas; several special cousins and numerous friends. A private memorial service will held at a later date. The Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas is in charge of arrangements. Memorial has been established for the Geary County Community Hospital Cafeteria and the Junction City-Geary County Animal Shelter.
