Obituary of Lawrence J. Leach
Lawrence J. Leach, age 91 of Waterville, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Blue Valley Senior Living Center in Blue Rapids.
He was born on February 25, 1924 in Randolph, Kansas, the son of James E. and Emily A. (Schultes) Leach. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard USS President Hayes APA 20.
Lawrence was a Bridge and Building Supervisor for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Union Pacific Employee Club #4 in Kansas City, Eagles, American Legion and the Moose Lodge in Marysville. He was an avid Kansas City Royals fan. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and feeding his backyard birds and squirrels. He enjoyed making birdhouses and sharing them with family and friends. He loved all animals, especially his cats.
He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Herring and Tom of Branson, Missouri; two grandchildren, Steve T. Herring and Danielle of Leavenworth and Megan Cottrell of Perry and three great grandchildren, Lauren Herring, Cecilia Cottrell and Finnegan Cottrell
He was preceded in death by two half brothers, Marvin and Clayton Leach.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Thursday, where the family will receive friends from 7 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening. Burial with military honors will be in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
