Obituary of Marion Elaine Lund
Marion Elaine Lund, 84 of Clay Center, KS, passed peacefully through the gates of Heaven surrounded by her family on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center.
She was born on October 9, 1930 at Clay Center, KS, the daughter of Edward E. and Mary (Jonsson) Naslund. She grew up in the Garfield area, north of Clay Center. She and her parents attended the Garfield Covenant Church where as a child her deep faith in the Lord began to grow. Marion attended a couple of different one room country schools and graduated from CCCHS in 1948. The summer following high school, she attended teaching classes at KSU and taught at a country school near Green for one year.
On October 9, 1949, she married the love of her life, Leland Lund. He survives of the home. They have been married 64 years. They started out their life together running the Ben Dairy and delivering milk around Clay Center for two years. (The dairy was located where the Hutchinson Manufacturing Company is now). After that, they bought a farm and moved north of Clay Center near Garfield, one mile from where she grew up. Marion enjoyed being a homemaker and farm wife and helping out wherever she could.
She loved her family, friends, cats, dogs and country life. She was a member of the Alert Covenant Church, Ladies Aide/Covenant Women’s Group, VFW Women’s Auxiliary Chapter #8746 and various neighborhood clubs. She volunteered at the Leonardville Nursing Home for several years. Among her many hobbies were porcelain painting and crafts. She enjoyed working with her hands. Marion also loved to cook and she was always trying new recipes out as she entertained guests in their home. She loved to have people over for a meal or a coffee party and attended various social events in the community.
Despite numerous health issues, she had a positive attitude and always tried to uplift and encourage others through her prayers, cards, phone calls and words. At the time of her death, she resided at the Leonardville Nursing Home where she had been lovingly cared for the past eight years.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Carmie Pfenning and husband Robert of Galeton, CO and Kimberly Hay and husband Craig of Liberal, KS; four grandchildren, Nicholas Pfenning of Arvada, CO, Lindsay Pearson and husband Paul of Galeton, CO, Joshua Hay of Kansas City, KS and Shelby Hay of Liberal, KS and one great granddaughter, Joy Lily Pearson.
