Obituary of Helena Staley
Helena Rosine Caroline Staley, age 96 of Leonardville and formerly of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.
She was born on February 26, 1919 in northern Riley County, Kansas, the daughter of Friedrich and Caroline (Weidner) Grater.
On August 15, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana she was married to William “Bill” Staley. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2011.
Helena was an RN at several hospitals and nursing homes in Indianapolis. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the St. Luke’s Ladies Guild. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and going to all the different shows in Branson.
She is survived by one brother, Ernest Grater and wife Marjorie of Leonardville; one sister, Erna Hass and husband Klaus of Keats; two sister in law’s, Reva Grater of Clay Center and Barbara Grater of Brainerd, Minnesota and numerous nieces and and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Eldon Grater and one sister and brother in law, Pauline Thomas and her husband William.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael J. Schmidt officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Tuesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery
A memorial has been established for the Leonardville Nursing Home. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
