Obituary of Wayne R. Haller
Wayne R. Haller, age 87 of Manhattan and formerly of Leonardville, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
He was born on January 4, 1927 on a farm south of Randolph, the son of Court and Maude Elizabeth (Gustafson) Haller. He attended Heller Grade School, Prairie Rock Grade School and Randolph High School. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Master’s Degree. His first teaching job was in Morganville and then Ober. He was a grade school teacher and principal at the Leonardville Grade School and coached basketball, baseball and track.
On April 21, 1951 in Morganville, he was married to Norma Jean Malcolm. She survives of the home.
He was a member of the Leonardville United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader and held many offices, First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, Leonardville Lion’s Club and Retired Teacher’s Organization. He enjoyed going to Sing A Long at the Leonardville Nursing Home with Norma.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Ronald Haller and wife Tamar of Home City; two daughters, Cheryl Williams and husband John of Charleston, SC and Patricia Pfeifley and husband Rick of Manhattan; one daughter-in-law, Linda Thomson of Wichita; one brother, Lyle Haller of Leonardville; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Dean Haller and one sister, Mae Simnitt.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, with Pastors Kevin Larson and Amy Bowers officiating. Music was furnished by Leota Stockwell. Pallbearers were Jeffrey Haller, Patrick Haller, Patrick Pfeifley, Jesse Haller, Mathew Haller and Grant Doyen. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.
A memorial has been established for the Wayne Haller Educational Fund. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
