Obituary of Gerald Baxter
Gerald Allen Baxter, age 66 of Clay Center, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 from a vehicle accident. Gerald and five others were heading to Lansing Correctional Facility for their annual Christmas trip.
He was born on November 7, 1951 in Clay Center, the son of Joseph Allen and Myrtle Cecilia (Blomberg) Baxter. He graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1969 and received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Diesel Mechanics from North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit in 1971. He was also a member of the National Guard from 1970-1977 – Company C 1st Battalion 635th Armor 69th Infantry Brigade.
Gerald worked for Porter’s Equipment (1971-1988) and Kansas Department of Transportation (1988-2014) in Clay County. He was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church where he wore many hats. He enjoyed mowing lawns, snowplowing, working on cars, trucks, and farm machinery, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. He especially enjoyed his morning coffee with friends.
He was married to Ruth Mary Hanson on November 24, 1972 at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. She survives of the home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Geralynn Baxter and boyfriend Stephan Hoffman of Olathe; one son, Greg Baxter and Cassie Kerr of Clay Center; one brother, Darrell Baxter and wife Evangeline of Oskaloosa, Iowa; one sister, Myrna Baxter and a special friend of the family Carolyn Herrs of Olathe; one granddaughter, Trystinn Baxter of Clay Center; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church with Pastor Rob Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Swedish Pleasant Hill Cemetery, north of Clay Center.
Memorials may be made to the Clay Center Wesleyan Church and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
