Obituary of Harlan Forslund

Harlan E. Forslund, age 87 of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at the Ignite Medical Resort.   He was born on March 22, 1932 in Winkler, Kansas, the son of Eddie W. and Elva Viola (Lindstrom) Forslund.   Harlan served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955, where he was in the Strategic Bombardment Wing, Strategic Air Command, 90th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing and Temporary Duty at Eilson AFB in Fairbanks, Alaska.  He attended Kansas State University from 1955-1959, earning a BS Degree in Agriculture and Ornamental Horticulture and graduating with honors.  He was a Landscape Architect for KDOT for most of his career.  He loved the outdoors, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, canoeing and working in his rose garden.   He was a member of the KSU Alumni Association, KSU President’s Club, KSU Dean’s Club, KSU Tower Club, KSU Ahearn Club, Kansas Nursery and Landscape Association, The Nature Conservancy and the National Rifle Association.  He served on the Board of Directors for Kansas Arborists Association, Association of Kansas Landscape Architects, Kansas Landscape Arboretum, Inc., Kansas Urban Forestry Council and Retired Kansas Highway Employees.   He is survived by one brother, Mervin Forslund and wife Faye of Gladstone, Missouri; one sister, Marilyn Heath & husband Jim of Riverside, Missouri and four nieces and nephews, Kim Rogowski, Kelly Dudeck, Kirk Forslund and Marlene Walker.   He was preceded in death by his parents.   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Monday until service time.  Burial will be in the Swedish Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
