Obituary of Charles Schurle

Charles Willard Schurle, age 81 of Manhattan, passed over to God’s glory on December 6, 2021. He was born on October 5, 1940 on a 1,000 acre dairy and general farm near Manhattan, the son of George and Fannie (Schwab) Schurle. He graduated from Keats High School and from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Business Administration and Management. He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1958 until 1962. On March 27, 1960 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Manhattan, he married Judy Ann Murdie. They met at Youth for Christ Rallies in Manhattan during their high school years. She survives of the home. Charles owned and operated C and J Distributors, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and was a basketball and football sports fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Melinda (Greg) Bowen, Melanie (Martin) Dannatt, Jodie (Craig) Scoby and Julie (Jack) O’Neil; eight grandchildren, Megan (Mylz) Dixon, Kate (Dixon) Olson, Ellie Scoby, Abbie Scoby, Ethan Scoby, Samuel O’Neil, Adam O’Neil and Luke O’Neil; three great grandchildren, Ryder Dixon, Zoey Dixon and Eli Dixon; one sister, Angie (David) Murphy and four brothers, Lyman (Shirley) Schurle, Robert (Lilia) Schurle, Stan (Betty) Schurle and Fred (Nancy) Schurle. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Toll officiating. The family will greet friends at a brunch before the memorial service starting at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church. Inurnment will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Homes For Our Troops. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
